summer...
after our wedding in July we continued our road-trip south along the pacific coast highway to California (stopping at several more National Parks). We then headed east stopping in Colorado to visit friends (Gavin and Vanessa) before continuing the long journey home to State College. After reuniting with the dogs we spent the rest of the summer recovering from our wedding trip and trying to get our yard (and house) back in order after a month awayautumn/fall...
this was a strange year in the Miller-Peters household, mainly because it was the first year that we were not preparing for Leo's departure to Antarctica. We held a pumpkin carving party for Halloween and spent Thanksgiving together in State College. As December rolled around we both headed to San Francisco for the annual AGU conferencewinter...
Leo's not going to Antarctica (his first year off after 8 years in a row) meant our first christmas together in the house. We made the most of it, with homemade decorations, gingerbread men and eggnog. We had a wonderful christmas day at home, just us and the dogs...and enjoyed many traditional 'english' christmas fare, purchased at an 'english shop' in San Fransisco. Leo also got to experience the State College winter, though it wasn't too bad this year. Victoria was looking forward to a year off from shoveling snow, there wasn't too much snow in Pennsylvania this year, so it turns out that Leo didn't have it too hard2011
spring...
Leo's NSF proposal got funded (he is now a Research Associate) and he had a meeting in Denver, Colorado which coincided with Spring Break...so Victoria joined him and they took a few days to explore Colorado and hang out with Gavin and Vanessa - Good times! Later in Spring Leo had another meeting, this time in Castine, Maine. Victoria and the dogs joined him this time...grasping the opportunity to check out Acadia National Park (the most dog-friendly National Park in the US!)summer...
Victoria had a position as Instructor for the online class 'Geology of the National Parks' which kept her pretty busy. Thankfully the nature of an online class allowed her to travel with Leo to the IUGG conference in Melbourne, Australia in June/July, where they both presented the results of their research. This was also a good time to catch up with some old friends who live in the area and to check out some local sites. Victoria and Leo spent their 1 year wedding anniversary at Cape Otway Lighthouse along the Great Ocean Road, before checking out the Grampians and heading home. Poor Mutnovsky had to have surgery to have a bladder-stone removed and has since been wearing a 'cone of shame'...poor little guyautumn/fall...
Victoria finished up her PhD at Penn State University and was offered a job in Australia. In November Leo departed for Antarctica, but this year Victoria managed to tag along! Both had an amazing field season in Antarctica, Leo as the Principal Investigator on his own project and Victoria as a Dr and a field hand.winter...? or summer...?
